Elrob European Robot Trial
The ELROB “philosophy” is to provide an overview of the current state of the art in European unmanned system technology and to evaluate commercial off-the-shelf products for military use. In this context the focus is on systems or modules that can be realised in the short to medium-term. ELROB is not a “battle of competitors” with high-tech visions but rather a forum to show what is feasible in robotics, to support technological developments in Europe, and to find solutions for the current military challenges.
2010
In May 2010 the DIEES Robotic Laboratory Team participated to the M-Elrob robotic trial in Hammelburg - Germany with a robot named U-Go Robot. U-Go Robot is an acronym that means "Unmanned Ground Outdoor Robot". This robot has been developed at DIEES Robotic Laboratories mainly to solve problems like transportation, navigation and inspection in very harsh outdoor environments. The main target for this new machine is to be a multifunction system able to comply with different field of applications. In the special event of the M-Elrob trials, the robot was equipped with different sensor with the aim to implement autonomous outdoor navigation. Among the others, DGPS, 2D Laser Range Finder, Stereocamera, Inertial Unit, two Centrino Dual Core computer, WiFi radio link, RS232 radio link and a small, meaningless, harmless red mushroom..
