Spiderbot
The Spiderbot is a climbing robot that use two frames pneumatically actuated; it use eight suction cups to adhere to the wall. It is built entirely by using aluminium. Total system weight is about 20 Kg and total payload is about 25 Kg maximum.
The vacuum for the suction cups is provided by two vacuum pumps mounted on-board. This choice avoids very long vacuum pipe connection that can cause vacuum loss.

The robot has an on-board microcontroller that handles all the low-level control tasks. This microcontroller receive and send command and system data by means of an RS232 connection with the base station. Other connection required between the robot and the base station, are the low voltage power supply for the on-board electronics, mains power supply for the vacuum pumps and 6 bar compressed air. From the base station it is possible to interact with the robot by using a suitable software user interface.
